Project Description Country: USA Location: Gilbert-Mesa, Arizona Total Budget: $11,500 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: Literacy Summary: Dictionaries to Third graders in Gilbert and Some Mesa Public Schools Dictionaries may be used by students during merit testing, but schools cannot afford to provide them. Teachers use the extensive glossaries to teach geography, current events, astronomy, sign language and mathematics. Club members sticker each dictionary with a Rotary sticker and a Four-Way Test sticker, deliver the boxes to the schools and, when allowed, make a short presentation about Rotary, education and the importance of learning new words, their meanings, pronunciation and correct spelling. The program has been well-received by over thirty schools for nearly 20 years. The physical book is not dead and we can prove it. We will notify you as soon as the grant funds are available. Reminder: No money should be spent until the funds are sent to the clubs. No receipts for spending prior to that can be accepted. 1-Sep-24 by Tom McLarty After some delay from RI our block grant was approved on Friday August 30, 2024. The funds should be transferred sometime next week. We will be changing the status on your grant to “Approved” as of that date. As has been stated several times RI will not recognize receipts dated prior to August 30, 2024. Also, PO’s and cancelled checks are not acceptable forms of documentation.
