Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Anaheim

Total Budget: $5,001

Areas of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention, Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Bicycles built and toys distributed to low-income children at Orange Grove Elementary School in Anaheim, California by Lifestyles Cycles, their Motorcycle Riding Group, the City of Anaheim, the Anaheim Rotary Clubs and the Rotary Club of Villa Park

With the upcoming merger of Orange Grove Elementary School and Patrick Henry Elementary School in September 2024, the student population will exceed 1000, significantly increasing the number of low-income and impoverished children. The Toy Run event, organized by Lifestyles Cycles, has become essential in providing these children with toys and bicycles, bringing joy and support during the holiday season.

To address the increased demand, Lifestyles Cycles plans to hold another Toy Run on December 14, 2024. The event will distribute over 2000 toys and 500 bicycles to children from both schools and their siblings. By engaging the local community and partnering with organizations like the Rotary Club of Villa Park, the event will provide much-needed holiday cheer and support to these children and their families.

Timeline:

- August 2024: Begin fundraising and outreach efforts to secure donations and sponsorships.

- September 2024: Merge of Orange Grove and Patrick Henry Elementary Schools; start volunteer mobilization and event planning.

- October - November 2024: Continue fundraising activities, collect in-kind donations, and finalize event logistics.

- December 14, 2024: Host the Toy Run event, distribute toys and bicycles, and celebrate with the community.

Use of Funds:

The estimated budget of $100,000 will cover the costs of purchasing toys, bicycles, and event materials. Specifically:

- $60,000 for toys and bicycles

- $20,000 for event logistics, including tents, BBQs, and support materials

- $10,000 for promotional activities and volunteer support

- $10,000 for contingency and additional expenses

Club Member Involvement:

Members of the Rotary Club of Villa Park, Anaheim Hills and Anaheim will play a crucial role in the success of the event:

- Fundraising: Organize charity events, auctions, and community fairs to raise funds.

- Toy and Bicycle Drives: Set up collection points and gather donations.

- Volunteer Support: Assist with planning, logistics, and event-day activities, including toy distribution and crowd management.

- In-Kind Donations: Seek contributions from local businesses and promote the event to encourage sponsorships and partnerships.

The collective efforts of the Rotary Club members will ensure that the Toy Run event meets the needs of the expanded student body, providing a memorable and impactful experience for the children and their families.
