This project will provide food and clothing to 200 infant and school-age children in an orphanage in a rural community in the 10th Communal Section in Croix-des-Bouquets, Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
A member of our Club, Father Philippe Charles, has traveled to Haiti and reported on the dire need of the orphanage.
The Rotary Club of Yonkers, through its Foundation, will purchase twelve barrels, fill them with food, clothes and fabrics to make school uniforms and ship them to an orphanage in Haiti.
This service project will continue the Club's tradition of supporting those in need in Haiti.
The Club's first project was started in 2019 by our beloved past President, Shahid Latif, who passed away from a heart attack just a few minutes after he signed a $600 check for food for the orphan children of Haiti.
Then, for two consecutive years, our past President Steve Simpson led our Club in shipping twelve barrels of food, clothes, and other non-perishable commodities to Haiti.
For the past two years, past President Tim Hodges led our Club in two service projects involving Haiti.
One project involved purchasing ties, pants, suits and shirts for adults in Haiti who needed proper clothing for job interviews, training, and employment.
Last year, our Club - with Rotary E-Club of Sunshine - sent five barrels of food and clothing to Haiti.
Based our Club's past success in helping the orphanage, we believe this year's project will be even more impactful with the additional resources from District 7230.
