Summary: Fund eight scholarships for children to enroll in local theater's performing arts fall academy.
The club will use the funds to sponsor eight scholarships to Arizona Broadway Theater's Fall Academy for Youth Performers. Tuition is $500 per person for a two-week summer program for young performers age 7-18. The funds will be used to provide tuition from the ABT Academy Scholarship Fund for those young children unable to afford it. The academy introduces, instills and inspires young people to develop an appreciation for the performing arts, culminating with a fully staged musical at the end of the program. Theater education teaches kids among other things, teamwork, discipline, empathy, public speaking, confidence and how to work toward a common goal. Club members have the opportunity to volunteer at the theater during the academy and assist in various roles. The scholarships will fund eight students attending the fall academy, which will be completed by November. Last year, 300 children completed three academies: fall, winter and spring break.
