The project is a year long project which will have multiple events centered on mental health and homelessness, which have a direct relationship with one another. One event will be Project Self Defense which will be held at UCI and be centered on college students. The project will feature both physical and mental self defense awareness. Situational awareness and physical defense will be combined with mental health awareness and prevention of mental abuse including education about date rape, partner abuse, suicide prevention, and other issues that affect college students and young adults.. The next event will involve supporting mental health by assembling "escape bags" containing personal hygiene supplies, emergency supplies and materials with resources for women/men escaping domestic abuse household situations where they have to suddenly flee their homes. The final project will involve assembly of hygiene bags for unhoused persons or younger people in foster care.
The club will use the funds to purchase items that support homeless and mental health projects which includes items for hygiene bags such as toothpaste, deodorant, brushes, shampoo, body wash, etc. The funds will also be used for "escape bags" for women/men fleeing abusive situations which will have a combination of the hygiene supplies and materials for starting a temporary household. For the self defense project materials will include a safety necklace that has self protection items such as safety whistles, mini flashlights, etc.
