India has one of the highest number of Type 1 Diabetic patients in the world and approximately 30% of which are school going children under the age of 20. Many of these young students, their parents and teachers are unaware to recognize the symptoms of
Type 1 diabetes. Some students have died as a result of not recognizing the symptoms and lack of awareness.
Blue Circle Foundation, a non-profit organization (NGO) in India, is currently devoted to bring awareness, educate and train teachers and school going students about Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. They have conducted several workshops in many schools all over India to bring awareness and also provide initial screening with Blood Glucose meters.
Madurai municipal corporation with approximately over 360 primary/middle and high schools is the area of focus of this project. The purpose of this district grant is to educate, screen and train the teachers and students about diabetic awareness/testing/treatment with the help and assistance and guidance if necessary from the Madras Rotary club who have successfully completed in 2024-25 Rotary Year.
