The project "Building hope in congenital malformations in Colombia" found the following statistics in the background: from the congenital defects surveillance protocol, of the National Institute of Health of Colombia dated January 24, 2023, indicates that the prevalence of defects congenital infections for 2021 was 133.6 cases per 10,000 live births. Congenital malformations represented a prevalence rate of 124.1 cases per 10,000 live births of the total reported birth defects.

On the other hand, the Mónica Uribe Por Amor Foundation has worked with the population with spina bifida in Colombia for 24 years and has found the following needs for people with spina bifida.

1. Lack of information: People with spina bifida and their families lack accurate information about their condition, its management, and the resources available to them.

2. Lack of empowerment and strategies for independent living: People with spina bifida face challenges in acquiring autonomy that allows them to lead an independent life.

3. Insufficient Psychosocial Support: Families face emotional and psychological challenges due to the consequences of their condition and social perception.

4. Lack of awareness about the importance of Folic Acid: there are general gaps about the importance of folic acid, both supplementary and dietary, to prevent congenital malformations before pregnancy.

5. Lack of knowledge in the health sector: lack of information and knowledge about the prevention of congenital malformations among health professionals, which affects the diagnosis and rehabilitation processes.

Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
