Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Bangalore

Total Budget: $30,800

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

The Rotary Club of Bangalore Koramangala, based on the needs of the community, would like to take up a project to construct toilets, handwashing facilities, provide clean drinking water, and upgrade science labs in a rural school near Bangalore. This initiative aims to provide safe and hygienic sanitation infrastructure, access to clean water, and improved educational facilities, contributing to the well-being and academic growth of students. In addition to infrastructure development, the project will conduct awareness sessions on hygiene, sanitation, wellness, and the importance of clean drinking water for students and staff.

A detailed community needs assessment was conducted to understand the sanitation, water, and educational challenges faced by the rural school. Through discussions and surveys with students, teachers, and school management, a strong demand for improved toilet facilities, clean drinking water, proper handwashing stations, and upgraded science labs was identified. Many existing toilets were found to be in poor condition, lacking proper maintenance, water supply, and hygiene provisions. Additionally, the school lacked adequate access to safe drinking water and proper science lab facilities, which are essential for quality education. Based on this feedback, the project was designed to address these pressing needs by constructing new toilet blocks, providing handwashing stations, ensuring access to clean drinking water, and upgrading the science labs.
