	D-706    Tajikistan - Dushanbe Village Water Supply Project $97,876 In 2006, the team of Dushanbe, LaBelle and 17 Rotary Clubs, from 5 districts seeks to expand project involving 9 villages in Tajikistan with approximately 11,800 residents. Out of these 9 villages, 7 water systems will be constructed and/or rehabilitated as a cooperative venture between Rotary and CARE, while 2 water systems will be constructed as the first fully independent Rotary efforts in Tajikistan. These 2 villages, upon hearing of the Rotary/CARE water projects to the north of Dushanbe, submitted signed petitions to Rotary requesting inclusion in the 2006-2007 project. The proposed 2006 Rotary/CARE villages in the Varzob District (Luchob (low part), Kosataroshi bolo, Kosataroshi poyon, Chorvodor, Alkhuch, Sayod, Obizak) to the north of Dushanbe, and the proposed 2006 Rotary villages (Chirogchi and Dahana in the Yavan District) to the south of Dushanbe. The fist stage Matching Grant Application for the amount of $69,900 designated to sponsor 7 village water supply projects in Varzob region to provide clean water for almost 3000 people through construction of gravity-fed water delivery system. And to implement first steps for 2 villages in Yavan region (extension of 11,500 km of the pipeline from the source to the Chirogchi and building pump station for Dahana). Villages to be implemented independently by Rotary are larger in its size: every village has 4000 and 4500 inhabitants, and the conditions are much harder (for Chirogche the nearest source is 11km far away and for Dahana only available water source is the mainstream pipeline, which required pump station to deliver water to the village) so the budget of these projects requires more investments then for Varzob villages. Therefore it was decided to split implementation and funding of these two villages in two stages. Matching Grant#58859 was approved by The Rotary Foundation on May 2, 2006 and the agreement between Dushanbe and LaBelle Rotary Clubs was signed on May 4, 2006. Additional Outside Funding (not matched by TRF)includes $25,021 from CARE International in Tajikistan, as $2,955 cash contribution of Dahana villagers; and $44,530 as in-kind contribution form benefitting villages. <15-Dec-06> System Entry Creation of project page. <1-May-08> by Sabina Status of Projects managed cooperatively by CARE, Intelligentsia and Rotary Water systems were successfully constructed in seven villages in the Varzob district (one more than originally planned). In every village a WUA was established and training programs were completed. These projects are completed. ******* Status of Project managed by Intelligentsia and Rotary: - RC Dushanbe formed a Water Project Sub-Committee; - On July 16, 2006 Water Project Sub-Committee members had a meeting with Yovon District Administration officials and received confirmation that the project was going to receive support from the local government; - On April 8, 2007 after the arrival of funds from TRF, the Village Working Committee was formed. It consists of three core persons who are responsible for organizing villagers for work, logistics (project supplies transportation and storage), and accounting for the village’s contributions. - The Dahana project design documents were prepared by Intelligentsia International, approved by RC Dushanbe and delivered to the designated village representative; all necessary paperwork/approvals were received from the respective authorities (Water Department, Sanitary Station, Power Department); - Construction work on component (a) of Dahana village project was completed: electrical wiring for the pump station was connected to main power line, the pump station shelter was completed; a transformer was installed, the pump/motor was tested and proved to be working fine; - On September 22, 2007 the Water Project Sub-Committee and other members of RC Dushanbe (all together 15 Rotarians) visited Dahana for a meeting with villagers.
